Are you chasing rabbits?

A Chinese proverb tells us “If you chase two rabbits, both will escape”. This is probably true for chasing small animals but does it hold for other pursuits? Should you limit yourself to one goal?

The UK government has confused many people by allowing pubs to open but not to allow friends to meet at home. By allowing school pupils to return but not office-workers. This is because they have multiple goals – related to the pandemic, the economy, mental health and others – but have not clearly said so.

What does this mean for leadership?

In complex times, we often pursue multiple – and sometimes conflicting – goals. Be clear about this so that everyone can be involved in balancing them to achieve the best overall outcome.

And as ever, a clear purpose will help you to achieve that balance.
