The hope of the Pope

‘Giving something up for Lent’ remains popular in many countries, regardless of religion, or a lack of it. It is a little negative, however, and perhaps ‘taking something up for Lent’ – a new habit – would lead to better outcomes.

So, while it was heartening to see Pope Francis appealing to his followers to stop insulting people on social media, we can do more.

What does this mean for leadership?

If you have recently ventured onto Twitter, you will know that social media has been diminished by personal insults and general nastiness.

The required act of leadership is not just to give up those negative actions but to play an active role in turning the conversations around. Not just to be kind but to lead the way to kindness for all. And not just for Lent.
