Tough times test teams

November 16, 2018

By Dan Hammond, Chief Disruption Officer, LIW

I don’t want to brag but our team was really tested this week.

One of us had a bereavement and needed to take time out to be with their family. The team acted fast and covered, including one team member giving up a weekend and adding to an already substantial workload.

The bereaved team member wrote to the team: ‘we talk a lot about the LIW family, but it is in these crucial moments that it feels most real.’

What does this mean for leadership?

People sometimes summarise trust in teams as ‘we have each other’s back’.  This is possible only if team members genuinely care about each other as people – this is the ‘soft stuff’ of teams.

Is your team soft enough to cope with the tough times?
