Isolated and anxious while at home

Twenty-five years ago, BT imbued its UK audience with the value of connection through its popular advertising campaign “It’s good to talk”. Apart from a nostalgic trip down the memory lane of nineties fashions and home telephones, its messages ring particularly true today for a new world ripped from normality and placed in virtual lock down.

What does this mean for leadership?

This week, clients have commented on their experience of isolation and anxiety in remote working. Research also confirms the impact of social isolation on people’s physical and mental health.

Authentically talking with your team about how they really are bridges the social distance divide and helps to quell uneasy amygdalae. It’s good to ask, as well as talk.

Whilst communication platforms have evolved since the nineties, caring about others endures time and events.
