The challenge
LIW worked with a major infrastructure organisation that had set a new strategic direction and recognised that the capability of its leaders was critical in achieving it. To evolve, they needed leaders at all levels to be able to set clarity and empower their teams, build trust, coach and guide their people and replace the existing functional silos with cross-function collaboration. They have a leadership community in metro and regional areas and both office and field roles.
The solution
LIW began the rollout with the executive leadership team cohort, followed by the senior leader community, and then with three cohorts of 20 middle managers and seven cohorts of frontline managers. The frontline leaders were a combination of office-based and field-based. Some were on remote sites and not accustomed to spending time in virtual meetings. It was critical that our design was engaging and that we created a safe and comfortable environment in which everyone could learn effectively. The program involved six half-day sessions. We incorporated learning pods; small cross-departmental groups that met between sessions to support each other in applying the learning. This created greater connection and accountability. We continued to run two cohorts a year for new managers the following year.
The Impact
The participant feedback shared that the program meet their needs comprehensively:
Workshop content aligns with needs – 100% across all four workshops
Topics covered are relevant and applicable to my role – 100% across all four workshops
Concepts presented in a clear and understandable way – 100% across all four workshops
Facilitator effectiveness – 77 % rated as excellent. 23 % rated as good
